Make sure that you have the following items:

Attach tape measure to jib halyard. |

Hoist to the top of the headstay. |

Measure to the tack attachment: 3a. |  |

With tape measure still hoisted up the mast measure to the chainplate: 3b. |  |

Now walk the tape measure outside the shrouds to the front of the jib/genoa track: 4a |  |

Continue aft and measure to the back of the same track: 4b. |  |

Pull the tape measure down and attach it to the jib tack fitting. |  |

Measure straight back to the front of your mast: 5a. |  |

Now measure to the chainplates, with the tape still at the tack: 5b |  |

Leaving the tape attached, measure to the front of the same jib track that you used earlier: 5c |  |
