MEASURING
All Mainsails
Jib/Genoa/Staysail

1.

Make sure that you have the following items:

A calm day
Tape measure (longer than your mast)
Pencil/Pen
Measurement form

Attach tape measure to jib halyard.

Hoist to the top of the headstay.

Measure to the tack attachment: 3a.

With tape measure still hoisted up the mast measure to the chainplate: 3b.

Now walk the tape measure outside the shrouds to the front of the jib/genoa track: 4a

Continue aft and measure to the back of the same track: 4b.

Pull the tape measure down and attach it to the jib tack fitting.

Measure straight back to the front of your mast: 5a.

Now measure to the chainplates, with the tape still at the tack: 5b

Leaving the tape attached, measure to the front of the same jib track that you used earlier: 5c

Now to the back of the track: 5d

If you have a roller furler measure from the tack attachment down along the headstay to the deck: 6b

Measure from the deck to the water at the headstay: 7a.
