Cruising Direct spinnakers are custom designed, manufactured and serviced by North Sails. North Sails invests more R&D dollars in downwind sail development than any sailmaker. Although North's revolutionary 3DL™ molded sail technology has captured headlines in the past few seasons, our downwind sail development has been progressing at an equal pace through advances in design and production software.

Cruising Direct spinnaker panels are computer molded, both horizontally and vertically, creating a profile that is smooth. The result is a shape that creates a more stable and even wind flow over the sails surface. Our custom symmetrical spinnakers are constructed with NorLon a high quality North Sails manufactured Nylon sail cloth.

The manufacturing process for North NorLon spinnaker fabrics produce an extremely flat weave to reduce air flow through the fabric. Additional finishing is applied to further seal and stabilize the cloth. North's NorLon™ (Nylon) fabrics combine low stretch, excellent tear strength, specific porosity and superior color acceptance.
